Who We Are

David Campbell

Director

Land Agent and Project Manager who has a broad and varied experience in land use, energy infrastructure, and project management. David has a particular, experienced knowledge of the complexity of crofting tenure and legislation. He also undertakes a range of works in negotiation and disturbance claims linked to national and local utilities projects.
When not on sites or sitting at a desk, you may find him hacking his way round some of the local golf courses or walking in the wild spaces.

Angus Davidson

Director

Since co-founding HiLs Ltd in 2021, Angus has supported rural communities across Scotland with expert guidance on land management and preservation and restoration initiatives. Angus led discussions with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to develop the UK’s first Peatland Code-validated restoration project. In recent years, he has focused on delivering peatland feasibility and restoration programmes.

As company director, Angus oversees the HiLs team’s work and is responsible for delivering projects on time and on budget. Angus also works closely with our stakeholders, nurturing long-term relationships and advocating for Peatland Action for the benefit of rural communities.

Angus enjoys shinty, golf, fishing and football in his spare time.

Duncan Fraser

Land Agent/Rural Consultant

Duncan joined HiLs when the company was founded in 2021, before this he worked for the Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate for more than 12 years where he was based in both the Golspie and Inverness area offices.

Duncan holds an MA Joint Honours in Geography and History from the University of Aberdeen. He is a probationary member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) and Scottish Agricultural Arbiters & Valuers Association (SAAVA) and is working towards fellowship of both associations. He is also an accredited LANTRA advisor.

Out with his work with HiLs Duncan runs his family livestock farm near Drumnadrochit where he grew up. When time allows Duncan enjoys playing shinty, football and golf.

Duncan delivers all aspects of crofting work, surveying/mapping, agricultural subsidies/grants, rural management, market appraisals and compensatory agreements for utility projects. He takes pleasure in delivering a friendly, personal service and is passionate about rural Scotland.

Kirsty Fernie BA MRICS

Chartered Surveyor

Kirsty was born and brought up in Highland Perthshire and has been involved in agriculture and rural life from a young age.

She studied agriculture at SAC Craibstone and gained a BA in Rural Business Management. Kirsty then joined a national land agency firm where she gained her RICS qualifications and gained experience in estate management, compensatory claims and rural property advice. Before she joined HiLs in 2021, she worked for Rural Payments Inspection Directorate in Perth and a move to the Highlands in 2019 saw her transferring to the Inverness Area office. Kirsty is also a probationary member of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) and Scottish Agricultural Arbiters & Valuers Association (SAAVA) and hopes to sit her exams to gain later this year.

Kirsty’s role is varied and involves completing market appraisals for a range of clients, croft regulatory applications, mapping, completing applications in relation to the agricultural support systems, compensatory agreements for utility projects as well as working on behalf of clients for renewable projects.

Kirsty enjoys the variety of her role providing advice to a wide range of clients, tailored to their individual objectives.

Out of work Kirsty enjoys keeping active and spending time with her children.
